Low-Stress Virginia Homeschool Evaluations: 2 Simple Ways to Show Proof of Progress

Updated: Apr 15

Is the August 1st deadline for "Proof of Progress" starting to concern you? At Curious and Free, we think the end of the school year should be a celebration of your child’s unique journey, not a cause for stress.

Our evaluations are designed to be low-pressure and emphasize the learning that has occurred. In Virginia, the law requires only that an evaluator confirms individual progress in Language Arts and Math. I will examine Language Arts and Math work samples from the start, middle, and end of the year. My main objective is to ensure the child has advanced according to his/her personal abilities. There are no grade level requirements, test scores, or comparisons with other children. Legally, I just need to observe individual progress, which I believe is a fantastic way to assess learning!

To make this season as easy as possible, I offer two evaluation options tailored to your family's needs:

  • Simplified Evaluation: This option is ideal for families who prefer a simple process without a formal meeting or educator consultation. You will receive a secure link to upload learning samples, coursework and/or an online transcript (representing the start, middle, and end of the year). I will review the materials and promptly send your Proof of Progress letter back to you. The time slot you select is simply the submission deadline—the point by which you agree to send over your child's work samples. (Pricing: $60 per child)

  • Homeschool Evaluation + Consultation: This option is perfect for families seeking a personalized experience with direct support. We’ll meet via Zoom or in person at the Joint Use Library in Virginia Beach to review work samples and address any concerns.

I’ll also provide tailored guidance to help you plan for the upcoming school year. The student is welcome to attend but not required. Please remember to bring work samples to the in-person meeting. For Zoom evaluations, you will receive a secure link to upload learning samples, coursework and/or an online transcript prior to the meeting (representing the start, middle, and end of the year). (Pricing: 1 Child: $85, 2 children: $150, 3 children: $200)

Coursework samples may include worksheets, transcripts from online courses, photos or reflections from field trips, curriculum workbooks, and more. Since each family approaches homeschooling uniquely, each work sample will vary!

For both services, you will receive:

  1. A professional "Proof of Progress" letter addressed to your superintendent within one week.

  2. Clear instructions on exactly how to submit your letter to the district.

Payment Details: Debit or credit cards (processing fee applies) payment is collected at time of booking.
